Walk and Talk

The inhabitants of Penarth are a hardy lot!  Despite the inclement weather on 10th June about 50 people came to the church in the early evening to hear about the wildlife of the churchyard and the digital Burial Ground Management System.

Erica Dixon, from the Vale of Glamorgan’s Ecology Department, spoke about the vital habitat churchyards provide and led a short walk round the churchyard.  The area is home to many birds, insects, slow worms, flowers and lichens.

The focus then moved to the Belle Vue Park Pavilion where the Friends of Belle Vue Park had provided refreshments.

Sarah Perons, from the Llandaff Diocesan Office, explained how the  information on people buried in the churchyard was being recorded on a system which will, in time, provide a quick, easy way of getting access to this information.  This will be invaluable for families and researchers.

‘Walk and Talk’, which was held during ‘Cherishing Churchyards Week’, is part of a series of events being organised to highlight the progress being made on the ‘Habitat and Heritage’ project.
