George Leonard Davis

George was born in Cogan or Penarth in 1898. In 1911 he was living at 13 Maughan Terrace, Penarth with his parents John and Margaret Davies and siblings Catherine, Lilie, Alfred and Ethel. George served in 248th Company, the Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), and formerly in the Welsh Regiment. He held the rank of Private (service numbers 64712 and 35237 (Welsh Regiment)). George was killed in action on 20th September1917 aged 20 and is commemorated on Panel 154 to 159 and 163A, Tyne Cot Memorial. Before enlisting, he worked as a pointsman at Penarth Dock.
