George R Sandrey
George Rowland Sandrey was born in Pontypridd in 1892, the son of Joseph Alfred and Sarah Ann Sandrey. In 1911 he was working as a baker and lived with his parents Joseph and Sarah and siblings Arthur, William, Thomas, Ellen, Philip and Richard at 42 Andrew Road, Cogan. George served in the 8th Battalion, the Royal Welsh Fusiliers with the rank of Private (service number 12306). He died of wounds in Mesopotamia on 16the February 1917 aged 25 and is buried at XXI. M. 4., Amara War Cemetery.
