Herbert A Barrett

Herbert Albert Barrett was born in Penarth in 1892, the son of Thomas and Rosina Barrett and brother of Thomas W, Winnifred G, Alfred L, Rosina G, Lewis J & Rachael D. In 1901 the family lived at 6 Paget Terrace. In 1911, Rosina Barrett, now a widow and her children lived at 9 Maughan Terrace. Herbert was a Grocer’s assistant. Baptised at All Saints, 30th November 1892, son of Thomas, a blacksmith, and Rosina Barrett of 5 Ivy Street. Alfred Llewellyn Barrett was baptised at the same time. Herbert attended the National School, Penarth (now St Cyres). He served as a Private in the 45th Battalion, the Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), service number 102035. Herbert was killed in action on 23rd August 1917 and is buried at L. H. 14 Tyne Cot Cemetery. He was formerly a member of the Welsh Regiment (service number 49466).
