John Bickle
John Bickle was born in Newport, Monmouthshire, the son of William and Mary Ann Bickle. In 1911 John was a house painter and lived with his parents and siblings Elizabeth, Florence, William, Bessie and Ellen at 76 Plassey Street, Penarth. He was a member of Sardis Chapel, Penarth (from ‘Penarth Times’). John served in the 7th Battalion, the Border Regiment. His rank was Private (service number 30640). John was killed in action on 8th June1918 aged 34 and is buried at II. L. 9 Auchonvillers Military Cemetery.
