Percival Gribble
Percival Gribble, otherwise P P or Percival Patrick Gribble
Percival was born in Cornwall in 1877. In 1901 he was a Manufacturer’s Clerk and lived at 29 Lord Street with his parents George and Maria Gribble and sisters Agnes, Dora and Ruby. In 1911, George, now a widower was living at 43 Maughan St, Penarth with daughters Dora and Ruby. Percival Gribble, a single man, aged 32 (so born 1873), describing himself as a miner, sailed for Adelaide from London on board “Wilcanna” on 24th July 1905. He served in the 55th Battalion, the Australian Infantry, A. I. F.with the rank of Private (service number 2909). Percival enlisted on 1st June 1916 . Pareival Patrick Gribble, service no 2909, 55th Infantry Battalion, 7th Reinforcements, born 1877, civil occupation miner, embarked 25th October 1916 from Sydney, NSW on HMAT A11, Ascanius. Next of kin father, George Gribble of 43 Maughan Street, Penarth. Percival left Britain and was advised not to return owing to a chest trouble but returned to ‘do his bit’ and died of pneumonia after contracting a chill while training in Wiltshire. His death was registered in Wilton, Wiltshire in Q1 (January / February / March) 1917. He is buried in Grave K16 in St Augustine’s Churchyard.
