S M John Spear
Samuel Michael John Spear (S. M. John Spear) was born in Penarth in 1898. In 1911 he lived at 40 Glebe Street with his parents George and Nora Spear and siblings George, Winnie, Nora, Edward, Nellie, Walter and Alfred. John served in in 113th Siege Battery, the Royal Garrison Artillery with the rank of Gunner (service number 348144). He died of wounds on 15th October 1917 aged 19 and is buried at II. L. 22., Menin Road South Military Cemetery.
