On a lovely sunny afternoon more than 30 people gathered in St Augustine’s to enjoy ‘Parry Revisited’.  This concert by Sioned Terry (mezzo-soprano) and Brian Ellsbury (piano) was to celebrate the restoration of Dr Joseph Parry’s grave and memorial.

In April 2017 The Friends ran ‘Parry in Penarth’ to celebrate the life and work of Joseph Parry on the 175th anniversary of his birth.  The event was also intended to raise money to pay for the restoration of his memorial.

The memorial was taken away for the work to be carried out in the autumn of 2018 and returned to the churchyard early this year.

So it was that on 20th October the audience enjoyed a concert of the works of Meirion Williams, Mervyn Roberts, W S Gwynn Williams, Dilwys Elwyn Edwards, T Osborne Roberts, Morfydd Owen, Sioned Terry, Ivor Novello and, of course, Joseph Parry.

During the interval refreshments Cathy Grove, Chair of The Friends of St Augustine’s, invited the audience to raise their glasses and toast Dr Parry – the reason for them being there that afternoon.

The Friends thank Ty Cerdd for their support for this concert.
