This is an annual event organised by the Diocese of Llandaff and this year St. Augustine’s has been invited to take part.

The Festival took place between Saturday 3rd and Sunday 11th June.  The Friends provided volunteer stewards so the building can be open for visitors.

Saturday 3rd to Sunday 11th June

The church was be open daily from 10.00am – 4pm except

Sunday June 4th 12noon – 4pm
Wednesday June 7th 11am – 4pm

Saturday June 10th 10.30am – 3.30pm
Sunday June 11th 12noon – 4pm

Exhibition display boards will illustrate various features of St.  Augustine’s church and its history.
Refreshments will be available all day.
Admission to the events below is free except the concerts by Martin Baker and VRi.

Saturday June 3rd
10am – 4.30pm Art Exhibition in St Augustine’s Parish Hall, Albert Road. Works in 2D and 3D by artists in the Penarth Ministry Area
12noon – 3pm Demonstration of Burial Grounds Management System in the church with Tim Viney of Atlantic Geomatics (12pm-1pm).  Church records will be available to view.

Sunday June 4th
10.45 Sung Eucharist
12noon – 4.30pm Art Exhibition in St Augustine’s Parish Hall as Saturday.
2.30pm “St Augustine’s Church: A Biography” – Talk by local historian Chris Riley (in association with The Friends of St Augustine’s). 9pm Bat Walk with ecologist Elliott Hughes.  Please bring a torch.  Bat detectors will be provided.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Monday June 5th
7pm – 8pm “The Organ Music of Joseph Parry” Talk and performance by Robert Court.

Tuesday June 6th
2pm-4pm Discovering our Churchyard. Meet the Gardeners who look after the churchyard. A chance to talk about the work taking place in the churchyard and learn about the “adopt a grave” scheme. Find some of the interesting people buried around the church. (in association with “Caring for God’s Acre”).

7.30-9pm Songwriter’s Circle.  Three local songwriters (Sophie Crabtree, Alexander Isembard and Richard Jackson) perform and discuss their songs.

Wednesday June 7th
10am Morning Eucharist.

2.30pm Behind the Scenes – Flowers in Church.  A chance to talk to, and observe, Susie Ryall preparing a display for Sunday’s service.
7.30pm “Come and See Bellringing”. An opportunity to watch bellringing in action.

Thursday June 8th
9.30am – 11.00am TOTS – Activities for young children in the church. Weather permitting this will include viewing moths caught in the churchyard the previous evening ans a zipwire for dolls and teddies!
1pm Lunchtime concert. A Harp Recital by Bethan Semmens.  Admission free with a retiring collection.

Friday June 9th
7.30pm Celebrity Organ Concert by internationally renowned organist Martin Baker.
Admission at the door £10.

Saturday June 10th
Open Day: Church records on display, Plant and cake Sale, Refreshments, Churchyard activities, Parish Records available to view.
2pm Commonwealth War Graves – Talk by Ian Howell of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
3pm “Find out more about Bellringing” with St Augustine’s Bell Ringing Team.
7pm Concert by VRi Welsh Chamber Folk Trio. (Admission £15)

Sunday June 11th
10.45 Sung Eucharist
2.30pm Guided Tour of Church Interior with Richard Griffiths
3.30pm St Augustine’s Churchyard Tour with local historian Chris Riley
6pm “The Music of Heaven” – Choral Evensong with the combined choirs of St Augustine’s and All Saints Church.
