On Saturday 6th September in St Augustine’s Church the Churchyard Maintenance Group and the Friends of St Augustine’s joined forces in a celebration to remember the end of WW2,  concentrating on the Home Front

This included walks in the churchyard, focusing on the WW2 war graves and the Roll of Honour; memorabilia and clothing from the period; a reconstructed ‘Victory Garden and, at 3pm, a concert about life on the Home Front.

There was also be an American WW2 jeep complete with drivers in uniform parked outside the church and we were honoured by the presence of the Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill (actor Patrick Legge).

The helpers entered into the spirit of the time, dressing up in costume.

A good number of people enjoyed the afternoon and were very complimentary.
