William Robert Gambling

William was born in Penarth in 1898. In 1911 he was living at 5 Cliff Street, Penarth with his parents George Robert and Ellen Charlotte Lavinia Gambling and siblings George, May, Daisy and twin brother Albert. William served in the Mercantile Marine aboard S.S. “Bulgarian” (Glasgow) as an Assistant Cook. He died on 20th January 1917 aged 18 when his ship was torpedoed by an enemy submarine and is commemorated on Tower Hill Memorial.
