Charles C Heywood

Charles Clement Heywood was born in Cardiff in 1879 and was baptised on 27th December 1879 in Roath, the son of Charles Albert, a merchant, and Sophia Ann Heywood of Newport Road. He was an Oxford Undergraduate and in 1901 was living at Holme Tower, Penarth with his father, Charles A Heywood and siblings Freda and Horace. In 1902 Charles was the captain of Penarth RFC and was a very able athlete.  In 1906 he married Jessie Winifred Gainsford. By 1911 Charles had qualified as a solicitor and was living with his wife Jessie at Hillwood, Brecon Road, Abergavenny. Charles served in the Royal Field Artillery with the rank of Lieutenant. He was killed in action on 25th April 1918 and is commemorated on Panel 4 to 6 and 162., Tyne Cot Memorial.
