H Stanley Wakeford

Charles Charles Herbert Stanley Wakeford was the son of Herbert Steele Wakeford and Mary Wakeford, of “Meadow View,” Clive Crescent, Penarth. He was the brother of Gwendoline, Reginald, Beatrice and Violet. In 1911 the family lived at 54 Clive Place, Penarth and he was an assistant printer clerk (possibly with his father who was a master printer). Charles served in Welsh Regiment, 24th (Pembroke and Glamorgan Yeomanry) Battalion, Household Cavalry and Cavalry of the Line (incl. Yeomanry and Imperial Camel Corps) with the rank of Lieutenant. He was killed in action on 7th September 1918 aged 28 and is buried at VIII. E. 20., Tincourt New British Cemetery. He is also commemorated on grave B105 in St Augustine’s churchyard.
