Samuel Thomas

Samuel Thomas was born in Penarth. He may have been the son of William and Elizabeth Thomas, brother of Elizabeth and Ada Thomas and Sarah Bonter, and the uncle of Mollie Thomas and Dorothy, Ernest, Frederick and Ilene Bonter of 27 Salop Place, Penarth (1911 census). Samuel served in 113th Siege Battery, the Royal Garrison Artillery with the rank of Gunner (service number 437). He was killed in action on 23rd July 1916 aged 20 and is buried at II. I. 2., Peronne Road Cemetery, Maricourt. He is commemorated on grave C20 in St Augustine’s churchyard and on St Paul’s Roll of Honour.
