William R Parkman

William Richard Parkman was born in Penarth in 1891. In 1911 he was a ship’s steward and was living at 36 High Street with his parents Thomas Charles and Esther Parkman (nee Treasure), siblings Thomas, Ivor, Miriam and May, and aunt Annie Day. William served in the Mercantile Marine as Mess Room Steward aboard S.S. “Ventmoor” (London). He died on 14the February 1918 aged 27 when his ship was torpedoed by an enemy submarine and is commemorated on Tower Hill Memorial.
