Andrew E Coyle

Andrew was born in Penarth in 1893 and was baptised in May 1893, the son of Andrew, a seaman, and Elizabeth Coyle of 29 Dock Rd, Penarth. In 1901 Andrew was living at 17 Glebe Place with his parents Andrew and Elizabeth and his siblings Sarah, Mary and John. His father, Andrew Coyle, was a fireman aboard the ship “Dora” registered in West Hartlepool and died of pneumonia following bronchitis in the General Hospital, Barcelona on 15th November 1903 aged 46. Andrew’s mother married Robert George Buye and the family lived at 28, King St., Penarth. Andrew was the step-brother of Frank and William Bwye. He served in the 8th Service Battalion, the South Staffordshire Regiment with the rank of Private (service number 13711). Andrew was killed in action on 10th July 1916 aged 23 and is commemorated on Pier and Face 7 B. Thiepval Memorial.
