Albert V Rowley

Albert Vering Rowley was born in Penarth in 1884. In 1901 he was a coal hewer and lived with his parents George and Matilda Rowley at Wenalt, Witchurch, Cardiff. By 1911 he was a domestic chauffer and was boarding with Mary Jenkings of 83 Plassey Street, Penarth. His parents moved to 5 Windsor Arcade, Penarth. Albert served in “D” Battery. 75th Brigade, the Royal Horse Artillery and Royal Field Artillery with the rank of Driver (service number 4542). He was killed in action on 23rd August 1917 aged 33 and is buried at II. G. 2., Canada Farm Cemetery. Albert was awarded the M.M. on 9th December 1916.
