Alfred Hope Reed

Alfred Hope Reed was born in Shropshire in 1867, the son of James Thomas and Mary Drinkwater Reed (nee Leech).  He served in the Royal Naval Reserve and in 1917 was on “S.S. Sagamore”.  His rank was Acting Leading Seaman and his service number 9202A. Alfred died on 3rd March 1917 as a direct result of enemy action.  He is commemorated on Panel 26 of the Chatham Naval Memorial. Alfred’s brother, Frederick John Reed and his wife Lilla were living at 28 High Street Penarth in 1901 and at 33 High Street in 1911.  Alfred is commemorated by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission as the son of James Thomas and Mary Drinkwater Reed of Craven Arms, Shropshire.
