Charles Matthews

Charles Matthews was born in Penarth. He was the son of George and Mary Matthews and brother of Walter and Esther of 23 West Terrace, Penarth. Charles married Clarissa Esther Barnett aged 19, by licence at All Saint’s Church, Penarth 7th April 1915. Their daughter Clarissa Mary Matthews born later that year. The family lived at 1, Lord St, Penarth. Charles served in the 3rd Battalion, the Northumberland Fusiliers and his rank was Lance Corporal (service number 92714). He died on 19th February 1919 aged 24 and is buried in grave C. 482., in Penarth Cemetery.
