Clifford J Hart

Clifford Joseph (also known as Joseph Clifford) Hart was born in Penarth in 1896 and baptised on 23rd June 1896, the son of Joseph, a mariner and Annie Hart of 12 Lord Street. His parents, Joseph Hart and Ann Jane Harris, married in 1890. In 1911 Clifford was a messenger boy with the Taff Vale Railway and living at 32 Stanwell Place, Penarth with his mother Annie J Hart, a widow described as ‘America Resident of British parentage’ and his sister Marjory. Clifford had been ill as a child. In 1901, Clifford Hart born 1894 had been a patient in an isolation hospital in Penarth. Ann J Hart was living at 11 Lord Street in 1901 with her parents William and Lucy Harris, her siblings Lewis and Beatrice and her children William E aged 8, and Margery aged 2. Clifford served in the 8th Battalion, the South Staffordshire Regiment with the rank of Private (service number 13432). He was killed in action on 19th August 1915 aged 19 and is buried at X. B. 21. Voormezeele Enclosure No. 3.
