Edwin J Culliford
Edwin was born in Penarth in 1877 and was known as Ted (maybe also called Edward.) He was married to Mary Ann Culliford and in 1911 they were living at 73 Moorland Road, Splott. He was working as a coal trimmer. Edwin’s father, Joseph, was accidentally killed at Penarth Dock in 1893, aged 49. His mother, Mary had died in 1889, aged 44. The family had lived in Glebe Street for many years. Edwin served in the 16th Battalion, the Welsh Regiment with the rank of Private (service number 23869) and was killed in action on 16th March 1916. He is buried in III. E. 8. Le Touret Military Cemetery, Richebourg-L’Avoue and commemorated on grave J40 in St Augustine’s churchyard.
