Reginald Ellis
Reginald was born in Penarth 1893 and was baptised in St Augustine’s Church on 22nd September 1893, the son of William, a labourer, and Susan Ellis of 4 Bromfield Place. In Army records he gave his religion as Baptist. In 1911 he was employed as a house painter and lived at 4 Bromfield Place, Penarth with his parents William John and Susan Ellis and siblings George, William, Arthur, Alice, Gertrude and Doris of 4 Bromfield Place, Penarth. From Army records – son of William & Susan Ellis, brother of George, William, Arthur, Maud, Gladys + 3 more sisters of 4 Bromfield Place, Penarth. He enlisted in 1915 and served in 135th Field Ambulance, the Royal Army Medical Corps with the rank of Private (service number 71976). Reginald contracted malaria in Egypt and then suffered from severe diabetes and was discharged in 1918 as being unfit for active service. He was awarded a pension of 27/6 per week and died in 1919. His funeral was headed by the Penarth Town Band. From Army records – was 5ft 2ins with a chest measurement of 34ins. He had a pale complexion, blue eyes and dark brown hair.
