S Jack Spear
Samuel John Spear (S. Jack Spear) was born in Penarth in 1895 and baptised on 5th February 1895, the son of John, a plasterer, and Margaretta Spear of 44 Glebe Street. In 1911 he lived at 56 Ludlow Street with his parents John and Margaretta Spear and siblings Elenor, Sydney, Florrie, William, Ernest and Muriel. Jack served in 113th Siege Battery, the Royal Garrison Artillery with the rank of Gunner (service number 348134). He died of wounds on 16th October 1917 and is buried at II. L. 24., Menin Road South Military Cemetery. He is also commemorated on St Paul’s Roll of Honour.
