Sydney Spear
Sydney Spear was born in Penarth in 1897 and in 1911 lived at 56 Ludlow Street with his parents John and Margaretta Spear and siblings Samuel J, Elenor, Florrie, William, Ernest and Muriel. Sydney served in the 8th Battalion, the Royal Welsh Fusiliers with the rank of Private (service number 12499).He died of wounds in Mesopotamia on 16th February 1917 and is buried at XXI. M. 4. , Amara War Cemetery. He is commemorated under the name Sidney on St Paul’s Roll of Honour.
